Facebook is the world's most popular social networking site. With over four-hundred million members in nearly every country on earth, its popularity and influence is impossible to deny. But some people are sick of the site they say likes to brag about each new member.
Is that fair? Well, Facebook does make a point of updating their membership statistics quite frequently. And yes, countless articles have been written about the site's amazing growth. And yes, their supercilious founder gives way too many interviews. And yes, yes, yes — Facebook likes to brag about itself!
But what are we supposed to do about it? Well, a number of fed up, tech-savvy souls have already taken the first shot across the Facebook formidable bow by establishing funny Facebook parody sites.
What is a parody site? As you might expect, they poke fun at the social networking giant. In particular, they focus on the superficial online friendships that most members like to collect like baseball cards, when people actually collected baseball cards, that is.
And do you know what? They actually have a point. When you learn that the average Facebook member has over 130 friends. Well, it is just absurd. And sites like Snubster, Hatebook and Enemybook mock this ridiculous new friend-collecting hobby by asking people to create lists of the people they hate most.
These sites do not make much money and they do not have many members. But they are a funny and creative way to thumb your nose at the most self-important site on the internet.
